FAQ’S/Architects
My file looks great on screen, why would it fail the printing process?
Some software does a great job at creating amazing renderings, but
has issues when it comes to 3D printing. The main problem is that the
technology is unable to print a water-tight model, meaning that the walls
are disconnected from a complete enclosure, which is irrelevant for a
rendering, but affects the build. Redeye ARC’s partnership with software
company Materialise helps to fix files to produce a proper 3D CAD file.

Can all of the models you offer be painted?
Yes, you can easily finish the 3D printed models from RedEye ARC
with any model kit you buy from a hobby store or have your model delivered
finished.

What file format do you need for 3D printing?
The final file type used for 3D printing
is called an STL (Stereolithography).
Most of the 3D CAD software on the market allows for direct STL output. To
learn more about saving your CAD file to STL visit our
STL info/export page.

I only have a 2D CAD file, can I build a model?
Yes, RedEye ARC is a full service 3D printing solution All we need is
the elevations and floor plans in 2D. We will convert your file and provide
you with a 3 Dimensional proof. Once approved, we will build and deliver an
amazing model.

Is there a size limit for the models you can build?
RedEye ARC can build a model of any size. We can split the
model into sections to create any size presentation that you need. The
biggest single build per section is 36x24x36”.

What if I need a really small model?
RedEye ARC’s technology allows for extremely high detail that is
unaffected by scale. We can produce models as small as 1” = 100’ with
extreme levels of detail.

How durable are the models?
Our patented FDM® technology builds your models with extremely durable
ABS thermoplastic materials. The material is made to withhold prototype testing
under extreme conditions. You rest assured that your model will surpass the
life of the project.
Top
What is the turnaround time on a typical order?
Depending on the size and complexity of the model, we can build your
project in as little as 24 hours. However, some projects could take up to
two weeks.
Top
How do I approve a proof of my model?
Before the model is sent to “print”” a RedEye ARC project coordinator
will send you a 3D proof of your project in PDF format and will help you
review the file for final approval. The 3D proof will provide you with an
actual view of your project because our technology prints exactly what you
see in the proof.
Top
Can I use more than 1 material at a time in my model?
Yes. In some cases, it is recommended to save time, money and ensure
the highest level of detail. Once we receive and review your project, we
will contact you with suggestions for building a better model.
Top
What CAD sheets do you need to convert a 2D file into a 3D file?
We need the elevations and floor plans for a proper conversion to a 3D
file. If topography is required or a site plan is needed, we will require
those sheets, as well.

Can the equipment build details such as Spanish tile and brick?
It can and it does a great job on fine details, visit our
Gallery to see some examples.
Top
Do I need a digital blueprint for 3D conversion?
No, digital is preferred for the sake of quick turn around, but we can
model from scanned hand drawn blueprints as well.
Top
Can you repair a bad 3D file for printing?
Yes, our talented staff can convert 2D to 3D CAD files and fix STL
files as well. We can repair most problems we encounter.
