Build Technologies

With more than 100 systems in its facilities, RedEye ARC can take on any size project and deliver a quick turnaround. Below you will find descriptions and recommended applications for our 3D printing technologies: SLA , FDM and PolyJet.

SLA | FDM | PolyJet

Stereolithography (SLA)

Overview
Stereolithography is an additive fabrication technology where a UV-sensitive photopolymer resin is cured by a laser to build parts a layer at a time. Parts are traced by the laser beam on the surface of the photopolymer, causing it to cure and solidify the prototype layer.

After each layer has been traced, the build platform lowers the part by a single layer thickness, typically 0.002" to 0.006," and sweeps a blade filled with photopolymer across the part to deposit fresh SLA resin.

This creates a new surface for the part and a subsequent layer is traced, fusing it to the previous layer. After all of the layers are built your model is ready for post-processing where excess resin is removed using a solvent such as alcohol and cured using a UV light source.

Highlights

  • 20” x 20” x 23” build envelope
  • Materials can be polished to be transparent
  • Does not absorb water
  • Great for buildings with windows, skylights & glass block

Recommended Application

  • Exterior & interior models
  • Any building with smooth surfaces
  • Small scale topography or site plan

FDM® (Fused Deposition Modeling)

Overview
RedEye ARC uses its patented fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology to create amazing architectural models from digital 3D files. FDM uses a layering technology that converts 3D architectural files into thin layers of ABS plastic to produce hand held models. The layering process allows RedEye to build geometry and detail unattainable by traditional modeling methods.

Highlights

  • Material available in white and semi translucent.
  • Durable, robust ABS plastic.
  • 23.6 x 19.7 x 23.6 build envelope.
  • Sand and paint to any desired finish.

Recommended Application

  • Exterior and interior models
  • 1/8 and 1/4 models.
  • Interactive models with removable floors and roofs.
  • Site plan.
  • Topography.

Polyjet

Overview
Architectural models that require extremely fine detail due to smaller scales are built with RedEye ARC’s Polyjet technology. Using the same layering process as FDM, Polyjet uses thinner “layers” to build with incredible detail and accuracy at any scale. Polyjet models feature an extremely smooth finish. The build material is a resin offered in a semi-clear, blue, white and black.

Highlights

  • Extremely high resolution.
  • Material available in semi-clear, blue, white and black. (Show me Polyjet colors)
  • Delivers smooth exterior and interior surfaces.
  • 7.8 x 19.3 x 15.4 inch build envelope.
  • Sand and paint to any desired finish.

Recommended Application

  • Exterior and interior models
  • 1/64 scale and upward.
  • Interactive models with removable floors and roofs.
  • Small scaled site plan.
  • Small scaled topography.
  • Clear featured models such as floor and roof.
